Use comments to discuss a website with its team. Sending those comments to Tracy is a separate decision that can request changes to the site.
Comments are shared with people who have access to that site. A team note is not private to a particular recipient, and it is separate from content published on the website.
Who can see and use site comments?
Owners, Editors and Viewers with accepted site access can read comments, leave notes, reply, resolve and reopen threads.
A pending invitation does not grant access. The roles apply to each site separately:
- A Viewer can give feedback and ask read-only questions. Commenting does not give Tracy permission to edit for that Viewer.
- An Editor can request website changes through Tracy as well as take part in comments.
- An Owner can request the same website changes and also manage the site’s people and access.
Each person can mark a thread as unread for themselves. The unread state does not change whether the thread is open or resolved for the team.
Read Team, roles and invitations for access and role changes.
How should I identify a page, block or image?
Give the page address and describe the exact part you mean. For a block, quote its heading or a few distinctive words. For an image, describe the image and where it appears on the page. State the change you want, rather than only saying that something is wrong.
For example: On the About page, replace the team photograph below the Our people heading with the attached photograph.
Where page pins are enabled, the idea is to attach feedback to a whole page, a particular block or an image. This context identifies what the discussion concerns; it does not by itself change the website. A whole-page comment concerns the page as a whole rather than a selected element. Describe the target in words as well so the request remains understandable if the page changes.
In “Comments”, “Current page” narrows the list to the previewed page and “All pages” shows comments across the site. “Open” and “Resolved” separate threads by their status. On a narrow screen, the page filters can read “Page” and “All”.
The count shows threads, while an unread dot indicates newer messages from other people that you have not read. A thread can contain several replies. Opening a thread marks the messages you saw as read; “Mark as unread” changes your own read mark.
What is the difference between a team note and an edit request?
Note for team saves feedback for people on the site; Ask Tracy to edit sends a request to change the site.
A comment saved with “Note for team” is discussion, a review question or an instruction intended for colleagues. Saving a note does not itself ask Tracy to perform the change. It also does not prevent an Owner or Editor from later including the thread in a request to Tracy.
For an Owner or Editor, “Ask Tracy to edit” sends the selected feedback into chat as a request. A new comment submitted this way is saved first, then sent to Tracy, so it can be followed in the comment list. If saving succeeds but sending fails, the saved note can remain without the request having reached Tracy.
A Viewer does not receive the edit action in the comment box. An Editor or Owner must request website changes using their own access. Creating a note, replying to it or resolving it does not change the Viewer’s role.
Can pressing Enter ask Tracy to change the site?
For an Owner or Editor, Enter in a new comment box can send Ask Tracy to edit rather than save only a team note.
The action shown beside the field determines what Enter does. In a new comment box, “Note for team” is the people-only action, while Enter can select the edit-request action instead. Shift+Enter adds a new line.
The action depends on the box and your role:
- In a new comment box, an Owner’s or Editor’s Enter action is “Ask Tracy to edit”.
- In a comment reopened for editing, Enter uses “Save”.
- In a Viewer’s new comment box, Enter saves “Note for team”. In a Viewer’s edit box, it saves the edited comment.
- In a thread reply box, an Owner’s or Editor’s Enter action can send the typed words and the thread to Tracy. Choose “Reply” explicitly to save a reply for people instead.
- In the checklist for sending several comments, Enter sends the selected items.
These keyboard actions do not turn a Viewer into an Editor. Read the displayed action and your role before sending.
How do I send several comments without sending team-only notes?
Review the checklist and untick every thread that should stay between people before sending it to Tracy.
An Owner or Editor can use “Ask Tracy to edit all” from the open comments being shown. The checklist includes those threads and their replies. Use “Current page” or “All pages” first to choose the scope, then review the selection before sending.
Team notes are not automatically excluded because they were saved with “Note for team”. Untick threads that contain discussion Tracy should not receive. A selected thread includes its replies, so check the whole discussion rather than only the first message.
Previously sent comments that have not changed are normally unticked and show when they were sent. Still review every selected item, particularly if the sent state could not be loaded. Sending the checklist creates one chat message containing the selected feedback; it does not remove the comments.
If the conversation is busy or an outcome is uncertain, check the conversation and site before sending the same feedback again. See Chatting with Tracy.
What do resolved and unconfirmed results mean?
A resolved thread is a comment status, not a guarantee that the website meets every part of the request.
Owners, Editors and Viewers can use “Resolve” to close a discussion or “Reopen” to bring it back. A saved reply also reopens a resolved thread, so further discussion is visible among open comments.
Tracy can mark a comment done when a recorded website write matches the latest request sent from that comment and no later edit or reply has changed the thread. The interface can show “Done by Tracy” or “Tracy marked this done”. This status uses recorded write evidence rather than relying only on Tracy’s reply.
Some kinds of changes do not carry that matching evidence. A comment can therefore remain open even when the page has changed. A report saying “Couldn’t confirm” means Tracy could not confirm the comment’s completion from that evidence; it does not mean that nothing changed.
Check the affected page and See what Tracy changed before deciding to retry. Reply to a completed comment if you want further work. A saved reply reopens the discussion; an Editor or Owner must still send a request to Tracy for additional website changes.
AI can make mistakes. Not every change can be undone, and external effects cannot be recalled. Review the result and read Undo and backups before relying on recovery.
Who can edit or delete comments?
Only a comment’s author can edit or individually delete its words, but Delete all can remove other people’s displayed threads and their replies.
The author-only rule applies to Owners, Editors and Viewers alike. Ownership of a site does not make someone the author of another person’s comment.
“Delete all” is a separate shared action available to people with accepted site access, including Viewers. It removes the threads shown under the current filters and the replies beneath them, whoever wrote them. Check the page and status filters before using it. Use the displayed “Undo” while it is offered if you selected the action accidentally; do not assume deleted comments can always be recovered later.
If an author deletes the first comment while replies remain, the thread can keep a “Comment deleted” placeholder. The deleted words and attachments are not shown, but the remaining replies and discussion stay accessible. The placeholder is not evidence that the deleted text is still visible to the team.
Can I attach files, mention someone or share a comment link?
Owners, Editors and Viewers can attach files when attachments are enabled, mention people with site access and copy a comment link.
Use “Attach files” in a comment box when offered. Supported image types can display as previews; other file types are downloaded. Follow any size or file-count message shown. If attachment storage is disabled, send the note without files or report the problem.
Type @ and select a person from the site’s people list to mention them. A mention does not invite someone or grant site access. Comments remain visible to the site’s members, not only to the people mentioned.
Use “Copy link” to share the location of a comment. Opening comments and their attachments still requires site access; copying a link does not make them public.
Do not include passwords, access tokens, sign-in codes or unnecessary sensitive information in comments or attachments. See Security and your data for data and access details.
What should I do if comments or attachments fail?
Check your connection and the displayed error, keep your text, and confirm what was saved or sent before trying again.
- If the list says “Could not load comments”, use “Try again” after checking your connection. A failed load is not an empty comment list.
- If you are signed out, sign in again. If your site access was removed, ask an Owner to restore the appropriate access.
- If a comment is too long or a file is rejected, shorten the text or remove the affected file before retrying. Keep a copy of the text if it has not been saved.
- If saving worked but sending did not, inspect the saved thread and chat before creating another note or sending the request again.
- If a deletion failed, check the restored list and displayed error before trying the shared deletion again.
For a persistent problem, contact Tracy Discord. Include the affected site, what you were doing and the displayed error. Remove private information from screenshots and copied details before sharing them.
