Tracy AI is included with your Tracy account, so you do not need to connect a personal AI account to start.
You can instead connect your own supported AI account and let Tracy use that provider’s plan. Connecting an AI account is a connection setting, not a purchase of a Tracy plan. Tracy is free during the beta.
AI can make mistakes, and not every change can be undone. Review the affected pages after a request. See Chatting with Tracy and Undo and backups.
Do I need a personal AI account?
Tracy AI is included with your Tracy account, so you do not need to connect a personal AI account to start.
With no personal connection, new chats use Tracy AI. Connecting your first personal account normally makes it the default ahead of Tracy AI. Check the displayed default after connecting rather than assuming that Tracy AI remains first.
If this does not work: Open “AI accounts” in “Settings” and check the connection status and the line describing what new chats use. Report an unresolved error through Tracy Discord.
Does my team share my AI account?
Your AI connections, default and fallbacks follow your Tracy account across sites, on web and desktop; other team members use their own AI accounts.
Owners, Editors and Viewers can manage their own AI connections. Connecting your account does not give teammates its saved credentials or change their site roles. Site access and permission to edit remain separate from the AI connection.
If a chat belongs to another account, start a new chat to use your own AI accounts. See Team, roles and invitations for site permissions.
If this does not work: Check which Tracy account you are signed in to before connecting again. Do not send a teammate your provider password, sign-in callback or saved credentials.
Which AI accounts can I connect?
The default personal-account options are Claude, ChatGPT Codex, GitHub Copilot and Grok.
Use the provider options actually shown in “AI accounts”. The available providers depend on Tracy’s configuration. If personal connections are disabled, Tracy keeps your saved connections and their order.
- Open “Settings” and select “AI accounts”.
- Select the provider’s card, then “Connect now”.
- Follow the displayed sign-in instructions for that provider.
- Return to Tracy and check that the connection shows “Connected” and the expected account.
On the web, a browser sign-in can finish at a localhost page that cannot be reached. When Tracy’s instructions describe that page, copy its whole address from the browser’s address bar into “Paste the callback URL” in Tracy. The localhost error alone does not mean the connection failed. Keep that address private.
For a device-code flow, use “Copy code”, open the provider’s page and enter the code there. If Tracy shows the ChatGPT device-code guidance, follow its link to “ChatGPT Settings › Security” and enable “Device code sign-in” before completing that flow.
In the desktop app, “Found on this computer” identifies a provider’s program; it does not mean that its AI account is connected.
If this does not work: Start a fresh sign-in if the previous attempt expired. If Tracy reports a connection failure, read that message and try again. Share the error through Tracy Discord, without sharing passwords, codes, callback addresses or credentials.
How do I choose my default and fallbacks?
New chats start with your default AI option, subject to its connection, availability and usage limits.
A fallback is another connected account or Tracy AI that can be used when an earlier option cannot answer.
- Open “Settings” and select “AI accounts”.
- Select a connected account’s card or the “Tracy AI” card.
- Select “Set as default” if that option is not already the default.
- Use “Move up” and “Move down” in the fallback list when those controls are shown.
- Check the default, fallback order and line describing what new chats use.
Tracy tries usable personal connections in the configured order until it reaches Tracy AI. Accounts placed after Tracy AI are not tried for that request. Put a personal account before Tracy AI if you want it tried first.
Changing the default determines how new chats start; do not assume it changes the account already assigned to an existing chat.
If this does not work: If the settings changed in another window, refresh and check the current order before saving again.
Why did Tracy switch AI accounts?
Tracy can switch because an account reached its usage limit, was signed out, or could not answer.
Check the provider or model shown at the top of the chat and any explanation of the switch. Depending on the configured order and which connections can answer, Tracy can use another personal account or Tracy AI. A switch is not a guarantee that the next option will succeed.
Tracy does not automatically replay a provider request after that provider has already returned output, including a tool call. If a request fails after work began, inspect the site and See what Tracy changed before repeating it.
If this does not work: Check the current connection in “AI accounts”. If the chat shows “Reconnect”, reconnect the relevant account there.
Can I choose a particular model?
An AI account identifies the provider connection; a model is the particular AI used for a request.
Available models depend on the connected account and Tracy’s configuration. A connected account does not guarantee access to every model from that provider, and picture support depends on the model and provider. Tracy can reject a disabled or unavailable model.
Model selection, where provided, applies to your own chat on a site you can access. It does not give you control over another person’s connected account or chat.
If this does not work: Use the options Tracy offers for your account. If a request containing a picture fails, read the error rather than assuming that every connected model accepts pictures.
What should I do when a connection or limit stops my request?
Read the displayed error before retrying, because an expired sign-in, a provider usage limit and a lost connection require different actions.
- Expired sign-in: Start a new sign-in from “AI accounts” and finish that attempt.
- Signed out of the provider: Reconnect the relevant account in “AI accounts”.
- Provider usage limit: Wait for the provider’s limit to reset or connect another supported account and check your fallback order.
- Server or connection problem: Check your connection and use “Try again” when offered. If the app cannot reach your AI accounts, restart it and try again.
- Signed out of Tracy: Sign in to Tracy again before reconnecting a provider.
- Site access removed: An AI connection does not restore site access; ask the site’s Owner about access.
Your provider’s plan and access restrictions still apply when you use its account through Tracy. A provider limit is not a statement of Tracy pricing. Technical request limits are not a paid-seat or credit allowance.
If this does not work: Send the displayed message and the affected provider’s name through Tracy Discord. Include no passwords, codes, callback addresses or API keys.
What does Disconnect remove?
Disconnect removes that connection’s saved credential from Tracy and invalidates its pending sign-in attempts; it does not promise to revoke access everywhere at the external provider.
Tracy encrypts the saved AI credentials. Disconnect clears the saved secret, but retains connection metadata and its place in the configured order. It is not a promise to erase every record about the connection or cancel the external provider’s plan.
- Open “Settings” and select “AI accounts”.
- Select the connected provider’s card.
- Select “Disconnect” and check the resulting connection status.
If you also want to end a provider’s sessions or revoke its permissions outside Tracy, review that provider’s own account controls.
If this does not work: If Tracy reports that it could not disconnect, retry and check the status. Do not assume the credential was removed after an unconfirmed or failed request. Report a persistent error through Tracy Discord.
