Start with a ready-made design, choose your platform and address, then give Tracy the business details you want it to use. You can leave the setup questions blank and change content later in chat.
You must be signed in to create a site. The person who creates it becomes its Owner. On that site, an Owner or Editor can request changes, while a Viewer can review it, comment and ask read-only questions. See Sign in and beta access and Team, roles and invitations.
Which platforms can I use for a new site?
Tracy can create and host a new WordPress, Joomla or EmDash site from a ready-made design.
A design must have a version for the platform you choose. The available designs can differ between platforms. Do not assume that a WordPress design also has a Joomla or EmDash version.
Creating a new site is different from bringing an existing website into Tracy. For a site you already run, read Import a site.
How do I create the site?
- Open “Add site” and choose “Create a new site”. If you started from a design or platform shortcut, some choices may already be filled in.
- Choose your platform, then use “Continue” to choose a starting design. Review its preview when available and select a design offered for that platform.
- If the design supports it, choose a design system. This sets the site’s colours and fonts. Keep “Template default” or use “Skip” to keep the design’s original look. A preview may not show every effect on the page.
- Enter the name you want in “Site address”. Read the complete address shown by Tracy before continuing.
- On “Customize your site”, answer the questions you want Tracy to use, then choose “Continue”. Use “Skip” to leave customization out of this build.
- On “Review”, check the platform, starting design, design system where offered, address and business details. Use “Change” beside a choice to revise it.
- Choose “Create site” and follow the build progress. When it is ready, use “Open the workspace” or “Open your site in a new tab” when offered.
A template supplies the starting pages, layout and sample content. A design system changes the look, including colours and fonts. Your business answers guide the content Tracy writes. Choosing one does not replace the need to check the others.
If this does not work: Read the displayed reason. An unsupported design and platform combination needs a different choice. A missing preview does not by itself mean the build failed. For build or startup failures, see Site not loading.
What can I use in my site address?
Use 6 to 30 letters, numbers or hyphens, starting and ending with a letter or number.
Do not enter spaces or a full domain into the name field. Tracy shows the rest of the address beside it. Names are normalized to lowercase.
Some names are reserved or already taken. Tracy also rejects names with two hyphens in the third and fourth positions, and endings reserved for imported sites. If the address is refused, follow the message and choose another name.
The address provided during creation is separate from connecting a domain you own. An Owner manages the site’s custom domain. Read Domains, DNS and HTTPS for that process.
Do I need to answer every setup question?
Every setup question is optional.
Tracy serves the standard question set for your chosen platform. The standard set covers “Business name”, “Logo”, “Favicon”, “One line about your business”, “Pages”, “Site language” and “Tone”. The pages and logo arrangements can reflect the chosen design, but this is not a separate questionnaire written for each template.
Logo and favicon questions depend on whether uploads are enabled, so you may see fewer than seven questions. Tracy uses defaults for unanswered questions, and skipped business details can keep the template’s text.
Use the business description to explain what you do, who you serve and what makes your business different. Provide accurate facts rather than expecting Tracy to know your services or claims.
If you change the platform or design, check your answers again. Tracy keeps answers that still apply and reports answers that no longer apply.
If this does not work: Use “Try again” if the questions could not load. If Tracy says it cannot write answers into a new site, you can still create the site with the template’s text and ask an Owner or Editor to change it later in chat.
Can I choose which pages to keep?
You can untick pages you do not need when the design provides a page list; the home page is always kept.
Leaving the page question unanswered keeps every page. If the design has no selectable page list, all of its pages are kept.
Keeping a page does not guarantee that every part of it will be rewritten from your answers. Review the pages after the build, including any content that still comes from the starting design.
Can I choose the site’s language and writing style?
Choose one site language for the build and a writing style of Plain, Warm or Bold.
“Site language” controls the language used to write your website. It is separate from the language of Tracy’s interface. The setup builds in one chosen language; it is not a selection of several website languages in one build.
“Plain” is direct, “Warm” is friendly and “Bold” is confident. These choices guide the generated text. Check that the result accurately represents your business.
Why are Logo and Favicon missing from the questions?
The Logo and Favicon questions appear only when those uploads are enabled for this Tracy environment.
A logo identifies your business on the site. A favicon is the small icon shown in a browser tab. The setup can account for the logo arrangement of the chosen design, including separate versions for light and dark backgrounds. Their absence from the form does not prevent site creation.
Why does my finished site still contain template text?
Skipped answers can leave template text in place, and an incomplete writing step can leave some pages with the template’s own words.
The completion screen reports when Tracy could not finish writing your answers. Open the existing site’s workspace and tell Tracy which text or pictures need to change. An Owner or Editor can request those edits; a Viewer can review the result and leave comments.
Check the whole result before sharing it: the business name, claims, contact details, pages, navigation, images and text. Also check the look if you selected a design system. If that system could not be applied, the site keeps the template’s original look and the screen offers a retry.
AI can make mistakes. Not every change can be undone, and external effects cannot be recalled. Read See what Tracy changed and Undo and backups before relying on recovery. See Publish and go live for publication controls.
What should I do after a connection error?
Check My Sites for the site before pressing Create site again if Tracy cannot confirm that the build started.
A missing response does not prove that creation failed. Open “My Sites” with the same signed-in account and look for the existing site and its current build state. If the build is still running or Tracy says it is still checking, wait rather than starting another site.
A build paused for a Tracy update is designed to continue automatically. If a stage has failed and offers “Retry this step”, use that control on the existing build. A completed site whose agent cannot start is a separate problem; use “Start the agent” when offered.
If this does not work: Report the affected site, the time and time zone, the build stage and the exact displayed message through Tracy Discord. Remove passwords, tokens, sign-in codes and private customer information from screenshots or copied details. See Site not loading for recovery steps.
