Chatting with Tracy

Updated October 22, 2026

Ask Tracy to change your site by describing the page, the change and the result you want. Ordinary edits apply directly; Tracy asks for targeted confirmation before consequential actions.

How should I ask Tracy to change my site?

Name the page, describe the exact change, and state what the result should be.

  1. Open the conversation for the site you want to change.
  2. Identify the page and the part of the page, such as its main heading or footer.
  3. Provide the replacement text or desired result, and say what should stay the same.
  4. Send the request as a normal chat message.
  5. Check the affected page and open “Site changes” to review the recorded changes.

For example, a request could be:

On the Contact page, replace the main heading with "Contact our team". Keep the contact form and the rest of the page unchanged.

AI can make mistakes; not every change can be undone.

If this does not work: Explain what differs from your request and identify the affected page before asking for a correction.

Who can ask Tracy to edit a site?

An Editor or Owner can ask Tracy to edit a site; a Viewer can ask questions about the site without changing it.

These roles apply to each site. A Viewer sees “Ask about this site” in the chat box and can use “Ask for edit access” to send a request to the site’s Owners.

  1. If you have Viewer access and need to make changes, select “Ask for edit access”.
  2. Look for “Request sent to the owners”.
  3. Wait for an Owner to grant edit access before asking Tracy to make the change.

If this does not work: If Tracy says you already have edit access, reload the page; if you have been signed out, reload to sign in again.

Does Tracy wait for approval before changing my site?

Ordinary edits apply directly; Tracy asks for targeted confirmation before consequential actions.

Examples include deleting content, restoring a database, upgrading the CMS, and installing or activating an extension, plugin or theme. Tracy can also ask before hiding a page, changing site-wide settings, replacing text across many places, changing a detected price, or editing a shared part such as a header, footer, menu or Joomla module.

A shared part can affect every page where it is used. Read the confirmation carefully, including which content will change and whether other pages are affected.

Confirmations do not guarantee that every risky change will be detected. AI can make mistakes; not every change can be undone.

What does a confirmation approve?

A confirmation approves the matching action once in that conversation, rather than approving every later change.

  1. Read the confirmation card and check its target and effects.
  2. Select “Yes, go ahead” only if you want that action to proceed.
  3. If the action is wrong, decline the card and explain the correction in chat.

Typing a new message saying yes does not replace answering the matching confirmation card. A later action can require a separate confirmation.

If this does not work: Respond to the current confirmation card rather than repeating a general approval in chat.

How do I stop Tracy or send the next request?

Use the red Stop square to stop the current work, or queue your next message while Tracy is working.

  1. To stop the current work, press the red Stop square beside the chat box.
  2. As a keyboard alternative, place the cursor in the chat box and press Esc twice quickly; your draft stays in the box.
  3. To send a follow-up, type your next message while Tracy is working and use the send button to queue it.

The queued message is sent when the current work ends, and the Stop square remains beside it. Pressing Esc elsewhere on the page does not use this stop shortcut.

Stopping does not undo changes already saved, and a change already sent to the site can still finish after you press Stop.

If this does not work: Check the site and its change history before repeating the request or asking Tracy to continue.

What should I do if a request stops or its result is unclear?

Check the conversation, the site and its change history before repeating a request whose result is unclear.

An update or restart can interrupt a request after only part of the site has changed. A request can also wait while another conversation finishes changing the same site or while Tracy saves or checks changes.

  1. Read the status message and review the affected page and “Site changes”.
  2. If Tracy offers “Continue” for an interrupted request, use it after reviewing what remains on the site.
  3. If a message is queued during an update, leave it queued rather than sending a duplicate.
  4. Resend when Tracy explicitly reports “Your message did not run after the Tracy update. Send it again.”
  5. If Tracy cannot tell whether the message finished, check the conversation and the site before sending it again.

A waiting status does not by itself mean the request has failed.

If this does not work: Contact Tracy Discord with the site, the request, the time and the displayed status; do not include passwords or tokens.

Does Tracy remember my preferences in later chats?

Tracy can keep lasting preferences for a site and use them in later conversations on that site.

A preference applies to that site, including conversations with other people on it. A conflicting request in the current conversation takes precedence, and a saved preference does not grant extra permissions.

  1. State a lasting preference as a normal chat message, using wording such as from now on, always or never.
  2. To remove it, ask Tracy to forget that specific preference in a normal chat message.

For example, you could ask:

From now on, use short paragraphs on this site.

To remove that preference, you could ask:

Forget my preference for short paragraphs on this site.

There is no settings screen that lists these preferences.

If this does not work: Restate the specific preference you want changed or forgotten; do not assume a preference was saved or removed just because you sent a message.

How do I ask about Tracy without requesting a site edit?

Use the “Help” command to ask about Tracy or your sites without sending the question as an editing request.

  1. In the chat box, type / and select “Help” when it appears.
  2. Enter your question after /help, then send it.

A /help answer cannot edit your site, undo a change, stop running work or answer a pending confirmation. You can ask a /help question while Tracy continues working on an editing request.

If this does not work: Use this help center or Tracy Discord if the “Help” command is absent or a question cannot be answered; do not send an editing request through /help.
