Glossary

Updated October 22, 2026

Use these definitions to understand the terms in Tracy and its help articles. Follow the link under a term for its permissions, steps and limitations.

AI can make mistakes. Not every change can be undone, and external effects cannot be recalled. Review the affected website as well as the recorded result.

Agency workspace

An agency workspace groups a team’s client sites so shared work can be organised together.

Its purpose is to help an agency coordinate work across clients. Each site’s team and permissions still matter separately; an agency grouping should not be treated as permission to administer every site.

Read Tracy for agencies.

AI account

An AI account is a personal connection that lets Tracy use a supported AI provider’s service for your requests.

Your AI connections, default and fallbacks follow your Tracy account across sites, on web and desktop. Other team members use their own AI accounts. Tracy AI is included with your Tracy account, so a personal connection is optional.

Read AI accounts, models and limits.

API

An API is an interface through which software can request information or actions from another service.

The purpose of Tracy’s API is to let an integration work with website content through Tracy’s permissions and supported operations. It is separate from an AI provider’s API or a connector installed in the website.

Read Security and your data.

Backup

A backup is a restore point that keeps the supported parts of your site as they were at a particular time.

WordPress and Joomla full backups keep files and the database; EmDash content backups keep the database and media, excluding template code. Older backups or backups without a usable database copy can have a narrower restore scope. Creating a backup does not change the website.

Read Undo and backups.

Before restore

Before restore is the backup Tracy takes before a full or content restore so you can return to the state it saved.

That recovery remains limited to the backup’s supported scope. EmDash backups exclude template code, and restoring a backup cannot recall an email or another external effect.

Read Undo and backups.

Brand

Your brand is the visual identity and words that represent your business.

It includes colours, fonts, logos, images and how you describe the business. A reference website can communicate a direction, but its design and sample content do not replace your own business facts.

Read Design templates and brand.

Claude Cowork

Claude Cowork is the connector Tracy installs on a WordPress or Joomla website to communicate with its CMS.

It is a plugin on WordPress and a component on Joomla. In Tracy’s import instructions, this name means the website connector, separate from the similarly named cowork product or an external AI client’s connection to Tracy. Connector setup can install, update or activate software on the original site before Tracy creates its editing copy.

Read Import a site.

CMS

A CMS is the content management system that runs a website and provides its administration interface.

Tracy works with supported WordPress, Joomla and EmDash sites. Support for creating a new site does not mean the same platform supports import, history or every recovery action.

Read What is Tracy

Comment

A comment is feedback or discussion shared with people who have accepted access to a site in Tracy.

Owners, Editors and Viewers can comment, reply and participate in threads. A comment is separate from content published on the website, and posting a team note does not itself ask Tracy to make an edit.

Read Comments, page pins and team notes.

Confirmation

A confirmation is a question asking you to approve a particular consequential action before Tracy proceeds.

Read the affected content, scope and effects before responding. A matching confirmation approves that action once in the conversation; ordinary edits apply directly. Confirmations do not guarantee that every risky change will be detected.

Read Chatting with Tracy.

Custom domain

A custom domain is an address under a domain you own that opens your website alongside its Tracy address.

Tracy’s connection process uses a subdomain, such as www.example.com. Only an Owner can connect, check or remove a custom domain; DNS and HTTPS checks determine whether the connection is ready.

Read Domains, DNS and HTTPS.

Design system

A design system changes the colours, fonts and shapes of a supported template while keeping your existing pages and words.

It is separate from choosing a template or rewriting business content. Previewing a system is different from applying it to the working website, and support depends on the site and template.

Read Design templates and brand.

Diff

A Diff shows recorded text differences in a file so you can inspect the lines that changed.

An available file difference can be opened from Site changes on WordPress and Joomla. EmDash has no file history, and images, very large differences or protected configuration files may not have readable text differences.

Read See what Tracy changed.

Draft

A draft is a website that has not been published, or has been taken back to draft, but remains accessible to people with its link.

Draft mode is intended to stop site email and ask search engines not to index it. Check the operation’s completed result, because a draft label can appear before those restrictions finish. It does not password-protect the website or make ordinary edits wait for publication.

Read Publish and go live.

Editor

An Editor is a site member who can change pages, design, code and settings, publish, restore usable backups and invite Viewers or Editors.

Editors also have the review and comment access of a Viewer. The role applies to that site and does not include Owner-only powers such as changing roles, managing custom domains or deleting the site.

Read Team, roles and invitations.

EmDash

EmDash is a website platform Tracy supports for building new sites.

Existing EmDash sites cannot be imported into Tracy. EmDash has no file history or chat-request Undo, and its admin history covers pages and posts rather than menus, settings or media. Its content backups restore database and media while leaving template code unchanged.

Read What is Tracy

Export

Export prepares a downloadable ZIP of the site in Tracy, including its files and database, for moving it elsewhere.

An Owner can request a fresh site export and follow the included move instructions. A downloaded package can contain personal data and site secrets, so keep it private. Exporting the copy does not deploy it to the original host.

Read Export your site.

Fallback

A fallback is another connected AI account or Tracy AI that can be used when an earlier option cannot answer.

Connection, availability and usage limits affect which option can answer. The configured order matters, and a fallback does not guarantee that the next option will succeed.

Read AI accounts, models and limits.

Getting started

Getting started is Tracy’s setup screen for checking your sign-in, choosing an AI option and setting appearance and language.

These choices concern your Tracy account and interface. Completing setup does not give you access to someone else’s website or change your site role.

Read Settings and languages.

Import

Import creates a separate copy of an existing WordPress or Joomla website for editing in Tracy.

The original continues serving visitors, while Tracy edits the hosted copy after import. The source needs the Claude Cowork connector installed and active, and automatic setup can install, update or activate it there. Import does not change the original site’s DNS or replace its content and design.

Read Import a site.

Inbox

Inbox is your personal list of invitations, access requests, comment updates and team updates across sites.

Reading an update does not accept an invitation, answer an access request or grant site permission. Collaboration notifications are separate from desktop alerts about Tracy finishing work.

Read Inbox and notifications.

Joomla

Joomla is a website platform Tracy supports for new sites and imported copies of existing sites.

The website remains a Joomla site with its own administration interface. Its templates, extensions and CMS permissions still affect what can be changed and who can access the admin.

Read Tracy for Joomla.

Live

Live is the status of a website that Tracy has successfully published.

A live site can use its Tracy address and a custom domain that has completed its own checks. Live status does not prove that every page is correct, and a draft can also be opened by people who have its link.

Read Publish and go live.

MCP

MCP is a connection protocol intended to let an external AI client use tools supplied by another service.

The purpose of Tracy’s own MCP connection is to let an AI client work with supported website content through Tracy’s permissions. It is separate from the Claude Cowork website connector. The public MCP servers catalog lists third-party WordPress plugins and Joomla extensions; a catalog listing does not establish a connection to Tracy.

See the MCP servers.

My Sites

My Sites lists the websites your Tracy account has access to, along with relevant invitation and request states.

Your role can differ from one site to another. A listed site or pending invitation is not proof that the site is ready or that you have accepted access.

Read Team, roles and invitations.

Owner

An Owner is a site member with Editor permissions who also manages people, access requests, custom domains and the site’s lifecycle.

Owners can change roles, make another Owner, export, sync a supported imported site and delete the site from Tracy. Ownership applies per site, and the last Owner cannot be removed or demoted without another Owner in place.

Read Team, roles and invitations.

Page pin

A page pin is a visible marker that connects a comment to a particular element on a website page.

Where pins are enabled, they help identify the block or image being discussed without changing it. A whole-page comment concerns the page as a whole rather than a selected element. Include the page address and describe the target in words as well, because the page can change.

Read Comments, page pins and team notes.

Preview

A preview is a view used to inspect a working website or a design before deciding what to do next.

The working website, a template demo and a design-system preview show different things. Design-system previews block form submissions, and a static preview also disables the page’s scripts. Opening a preview is separate from applying a design or publishing a site.

Read Preview and website admin.

Publish

Publish changes a site in Tracy from draft to live.

An Owner or Editor can publish, while a Viewer cannot. Ordinary edits apply directly to the working site and do not wait for this action. Publishing an imported copy in Tracy does not send its edits back to the original host.

Read Publish and go live.

Restore

Restore puts the selected parts of a website back to a backup point, within that backup’s supported scope.

Files-only restore leaves database content and settings unchanged; a usable full WordPress or Joomla restore returns files and database. EmDash content restore returns database and media while leaving template code unchanged. Full or content restore deletes data saved after the selected point, so read the loss warning before confirming.

Read Undo and backups.

Seat

A seat is a person’s access to a particular site, with a role that determines what they may do.

It describes access, not a billing unit. A pending invitation grants no access until accepted, and access to one site does not grant access to other sites.

Read Team, roles and invitations.

Site changes

Site changes is the history of supported changes recorded for a particular website in Tracy.

It helps you inspect what changed, when, its source and who made it when that information is available. History depends on the platform and action: EmDash has no file history, and its admin log covers pages and posts rather than menus, settings or media. A recorded result does not replace checking the actual website.

Read See what Tracy changed.

Sitespace

A Sitespace is the working context for one site’s conversations and settings in Tracy.

The term appears as a group in Settings. It refers to the open site’s context, separate from an agency workspace, which groups several client sites.

Read Settings and languages.

Sync from live

Sync from live brings changes from the original live site into Tracy’s copy.

Only an Owner can start it for a connected, imported Joomla site. It keeps Tracy’s version where both sites changed the same place differently and reports conflicts. It does not send Tracy’s edits to the original site, and a failure after data was applied can require recovery from the pre-sync backup.

Read Sync from live.

Team note

A team note is a comment saved for people who have access to the site.

It is shared site discussion, not a private message to a selected recipient. Saving it does not itself request a website edit, but an Owner or Editor can later include it in a request to Tracy. Review selected threads before sending comments that should remain between people.

Read Comments, page pins and team notes.

Template

A template supplies a new site’s starting layouts, pages and sample content.

Choose a template offered for the website platform you want. A design system changes a supported template’s visual treatment, while your business answers supply the content Tracy should use.

Read Design templates and brand.

Token / Access token

A token is a secret credential used to authorise a connection or request.

For import, the Claude Cowork connector credential goes in Tracy’s “Access token from your site” field. A website connector token, a Tracy API credential and a personal AI account credential serve different connections and are not interchangeable. Never share tokens in chat, screenshots or support messages.

Read Security and your data.

Tracy address

A Tracy address is the website address Tracy gives a site hosted on its infrastructure.

An imported copy receives its own address, separate from the original site. A connected custom domain is added alongside the Tracy address, which the site retains. An address alone does not establish whether the site is draft or live.

Read Domains, DNS and HTTPS.

Undo

Undo reverses eligible recorded changes within the scope shown for the selected action.

On WordPress and Joomla, Undo file changes affects eligible files rather than database content, and later edits can block it. EmDash has no file history or chat-request Undo. Not every change can be undone, and external effects cannot be recalled.

Read Undo and backups.

Viewer

A Viewer is a site member who can inspect the site, its changes and its team, comment and ask Tracy read-only questions.

A Viewer cannot ask Tracy to edit, publish or restore the website. Commenting or connecting an AI account does not grant editing rights; an Owner must approve a change in access.

Read Team, roles and invitations.

Voice and Dictate

Voice sends spoken requests during a conversation and reads Tracy’s replies aloud, while Dictate adds recognised speech to a draft for you to review and send.

Use the controls when offered, and check the recognised words and resulting website. Speech does not change your site permissions, and stopping spoken output does not undo saved work. Audio and reply text are sent to a third-party speech service for transcription and spoken replies.

Read Voice and dictation.

Website admin

Website admin is the administration interface of the CMS running your website.

It lets an authorised person manage the website through WordPress, Joomla or EmDash alongside Tracy. Opening the admin link does not give every Tracy role every CMS permission.

Read Preview and website admin.

WordPress

WordPress is a website platform Tracy supports for new sites and imported copies of existing sites.

The website keeps its WordPress administration interface, themes and plugins. Those components and the site’s permissions can affect what Tracy can change, so platform support does not guarantee compatibility with every plugin or setup.

Read What is Tracy

Working copy

A working copy is the website hosted in Tracy that you inspect and edit.

For an imported site, this copy is separate from the original website serving visitors. Changes to the copy are not automatically deployed back to the original host. A working copy can be draft or live, so do not assume that working means private.
